Assistant Professor,
Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology
Stony Brook University
State University of New York
Stony Brook, NY

The Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Stony Brook University is conducting a search for a new, tenuretrack
faculty member at the Assistant Professor level. We welcome highly qualified scientists from all areas of
biochemistry, but are particularly focusing on structural biology. Stony Brook’s proximity and unique access to
facilities at Brookhaven National Laboratory make this an outstanding opportunity for crystallographers. Candidates
using advanced biochemical, molecular, and structural approaches to address fundamental biological problems are
particularly encouraged to apply.

Stony Brook University offers an excellent environment for faculty with interests in life sciences. Research in the
Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology is quite diverse, extending from detailed structural analysis of proteins to
development of mice, frogs, and flies. Many additional opportunities exist to interact with faculty from other
departments since both the medical school and undergraduate schools are located on the same campus. Faculty have
access to state-of-the-art instrumentation here at Stony Brook, including core facilities for proteomics, microscopy
(confocal and EM), monoclonal antibody production, flow cytometry, and molecular cloning. Numerous additional
facilities are available at nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. With nearly
25,000 students (graduate and undergraduate), Stony Brook is the largest university on Long Island, and is located on
the picturesque North Shore. More details about the Department can be found on our website:

As part of our continuous commitment to research excellence and expansion, generous start-up funds, competitive
salary, modern laboratory space and substantial resources for Department expansion are available.
